6 Essential Items You Need to Make Your Home Feel Cozy
Decorating and styling the home with the best, most luxurious things doesn’t mean the job is done. What’s the point of splurging so much money on the home décor when you and your guests don't feel cozy, warm and fuzzy in there? I feel that a home should feel like a sanctuary, a perfect getaway from all the curveballs life throws at us on regular bases. A home that instantly makes you feel relaxed, welcomed and warm is in fact a happy home. But you’ll need to add certain items and elements like round area rugs that will help you achieve the cozy feel around the home.
People usually
associate warm and cozy vibes with the winter season but that’s actually not
true, you want to feel welcomed in your warm and cozy home all year around, so
why only specify it for a couple of months. Yes, you can always add on a few
elements in winter season to further solidify the warm vibes and you can also
strip off some elements to make your home breezier in summer times, but I’m not
really talking about items that work for any particular season here, I’m
talking about items that work year around and can be added and subtracted to as
per the choice of the dwellers. Items like decorative pillows work all year around and
also makes the home feel comfy, welcoming and detailed.
So, in your quest
of making your home feel cozy, comfortable, inviting and welcoming I’m going to
tell you some super simple, affordable items. These items can seamlessly blend
in current home décor or if you’re starting anew then it’s just perfect as
these can make your home the perfect hygge home of your dreams- a home you
would never want to leave or the one you would love to go back to all the time.
1.
Get
Your Hands on an Area Rug
Rugs literally
scream and shout coziness, by placing rugs between you and the flooring you
instantly lend warmth to it. You can have hardwood flooring, you can opt for
tile, marble or even wall-to-wall carpeting but nothing can beat the instant
texture and visual delight of the round area rugs or large area
rugs for that matter. There isn’t one room in the home that can’t accommodate
or be profited by an area rug, you can place it in a bathroom, kitchen,
entrance, closet, living room, dining area, outdoor space and of course
bedrooms. Rugs are like art work for the flooring, choose wisely according to
your decor style and see how it adds to the décor and also lends coziness.
2.
Play
with Textures
Texture is
basically surface quality of any material, they help in adding depth, dimension
and diversity to the space. Adding texture to any space is very easy, just work
on placing things that compel you to touch, feel and rub your hands across it.
The more textures you add to your space the more it will feel inviting, comfy
and full of hygge but don’t go overboard with it, 3-4 textures per room are
enough otherwise the texture will make things too much complicated and appear
more like war of textures, no resting for the eyes. You can add various
textures in one space. For example, on a solid-colored velvet sofa, you can
throw a chunky knit runner or a linen scarf along with faux-fur decorative
pillows on top. You can achieve a textured look by placing wicker or
woven baskets containing various sizes, colors and textures pillows, blankets
and other items that promote touching and warmth.
3.
Lend
Warmth with Lighting Fixtures
Lighting plays a
very important and pivotal role in making your home feel cozy and full of
warmth, trust me nothing makes a home more cold than a harsh, white lighting
place without much thought. If you’re lucky enough to read this article before
starting your home décor then be grateful, as you’re just going to make your
home extremely warm with just these lighting fixtures placements and tone.
Firstly, always opt for warm toned lights, if your color story is neutral then
place your lighting fixture down facing as this would make things more cozy and
vice versa. Don’t use one single light fixture and expect it to do it all for
you, instead have clusters of lights, floor lamps, pendant lights, chandeliers,
table lamps, scones and spot lighting.
4.
Pay
Heed to the Walls
If your home has
a bare white wall then I don’t see why you are complaining about your home not
being warm even, you need to pay heed to the atrocity of the walls. Walls are
an important architectural feature that provides you with a ton of opportunity
to play with, so choose wisely. Hang a picture of the walls, make a gallery
wall out of it, get it wallpapered or hang a beautiful mirror on it, the
options are unlimited but just don’t leave the walls empty.
5.
Add
Nature
Any living thing
instantly evokes warm fuzzy feelings and one of my most favorite living things
are plants and flowers. If you don’t have nature in your décor then you must
seriously think about adding it now! Plants and flowers are the easiest,
affordable and inviting item you can add. Flowers and plants need pots and
vases which further adds textures and dimensions to the décor and don’t forget
about the exquisite fragrance, hues and vivaciousness oozing from each.
6.
Scented
Candles
Speaking of
fragrances, another amazing way to create an inviting environment at home, you
can get yourself scented candles and burn them around the home to create an
aura, aroma and ambiance of welcoming vibes. Some scents just scream coziness,
you can also get them according to the season or just any scent that makes you
nostalgic.
Summary
Every home needs
a cozy comforting vibe around and these are just a few ideas I floated around
that you can use to instantly spark the warmth around the home. You can also
get yourself a pet, that also makes the home feel welcoming and a place where
you feel someone is waiting.
